The LIFE TECMINE team presents the project in Madrid together with the creators of the GEOFLUV method

Professionals from the restoration of degraded spaces are meeting in Madrid today to take part in the course "Landform design and modelling for best practise in mine rehabilitation", organized by Universidad Complutense de Madrid and sponsored by the LIFE TECMINE project.

This course emerges from the need to train professionals in new landscape remodelling techniques to minimise the major impacts generated by mines, both from a landscape and hydrological point of view.

During three days the participants will learn, from the hand of their creators, the best geomorphological restoration techniques such as GeoFluv™ - Natural Regrade (Fluvial Geomorphic Design) and the SIBERIA model, included in the category of Landscape Evolution Models or LEM. These types of models simulate the evolution of the landscape subjected to fluvial erosion and mass transport processes.

This course is an introduction to these techniques and the specific dedicated software used to design the new forms of the terrain. Two days for theoretical classes and one day to visit mines where these techniques have been used in the Alto Tajo area.

In this forum, technicians from the LIFE TECMINE team attend and, also, take part in the round table together with the best experts in geomorphological restoration, from the United States to Australia. An interesting and novel debate is expected on the current situation of mine restoration in Europe and the introduction of these new techniques, as well as the impact it will have at all levels: political, environmental, economic and social.

The participation of professionals from different countries allow to learn about the policies carried out in the field of mine restoration in their respective regions, the exchange of experiences, as well as the possibility of replicating these techniques in other parts of the world, thanks to the training they receive.
