Course on New Technologies Applied to the Restoration of Mining Exploitations

On 8, 9 and 10 July, the first block of the New Technologies Applied in the Restoration of Mining Operations Course was held at the Higher Technical School of Forestry, Forest and Natural Environment Engineering, organised by the LIFE TECMINE project and the Conde del Valle de Salazar Foundation.

This course has been divided into 2 blocks. The first block has been given this July and the second block will take place on 30 September and 1 October. The course was attended by 45 people, reaching full capacity.

This technical training addressed to professionals from the mining sector has mobilized technicians from all over Spain and bring together in the same room consultants, promoters and facultative directors of mining operations.

Attendees have been trained in the new technologies applied in restoration of mining operations that are being developed in the field of geomorphology, hydrology, soil and vegetation establishment. For this purpose, experts from each field with a wide professional career from different universities, research centers, mining companies and public administrations have been participated.

This first block included a field visit to the Fortuna mine (LIFE TECMINE project) in Ademuz, where part of the mine was restored using innovative techniques such as the GeoFluv method or the creation of micro-catchments to increase the efficiency of rainwater collection by seedlings. These and other techniques have been developed in the lectures.

The course has been very well received by the sector. Attendees have shown great interest in the presentations and an atmosphere of debate, dialogue and interaction between administrations, companies and universities has been created, which is very necessary and demanded by the different stakeholders.

From the LIFE TECMINE project we would like to thank the organizers, sponsors, collaborators, speakers and attendees who have made it possible for this course to take place, as well as the involvement of all parts.
